I know you're tired of being broke, right? The reason I know is once I was a Teenager (hard to believe I know!) with no money (and I mean no money!) and now I have two teenagers of my own who, until recently, were constantly telling me how sick and tired they were of having no money.
They looked to me, a successful business-person, who had made a lot of money over the years and spent almost 20 years coaching other people on ways to make money, so why couldn't I show them ways for teenagers to make money?
So, I put my mind on the task, and to date I'm pleased to say that my then teenagers (who are now just touching their early twenties) made money, and I mean a good amount of money!
How did I turn them around from being 'stone broke' to having pretty much as much money as they needed to get through school and colleges, enjoying life comfortably? In fact, it was quite simple. Here's how I coached them...
Step 1. Define Your Real Wants: I got them to identify in themselves the difference between 'want' and 'real need'. You see everyone 'wants' things - better car, more party money, shiny new gadgets, vacation spending money - there's lots of things we all 'want', yet identifying the stuff you really NEED is the first key. Really focus in on deciding if whatever you want more money for, is a true need - if it is, great. Then move onto Step 2...
Step 2. - Put a Figure On Your Goal: Define exactly what it is you need in a monetary sense, and I mean exactly. If you 'need' some new clothes, then check out the clothes stores, identify what it is you want to buy and know exactly how much it's going to cost. The key with this step is to put a real figure on what it is you are aiming for. Say you've seen and identified exactly the clothes you are after, and they come to $122 - that's your goal ...achieving an additional $122. On to Step 3...
Step 3 - Make Yourself Accountable: This Step is crucial; you've identified exactly that you really 'need something (step 1); you've defined exactly how much you need as a figure to get the thing you need (step 2); now you need to tell someone you are going to get it, and I mean really 'get it'. The reason you need to tell someone is to make yourself accountable to someone as you strive to get the thing you need. It's easy to give ourselves personal excuses as to why we don't achieve what we set out to achieve. It's a lot, lot harder to make those excuses verbally to others especially when they're reminding you of what you said you'd do each day. You need someone to hold you accountable to the commitment of getting what it is you have defined in Step 1 and 2 as needing.
Step 4 - Have A Plan To Earn The Money You Need: This is actual the easiest step because there are literally loads of things you can do as ways for teenagers to make money. Below is a really great guide I recommended to my teenagers to give them ideas on ways they could make money.
Step 5 - Take Action!: Probably the hardest step! You know exactly what you need; you've worked out the precise amount of money you have to have to get that 'need'; you have shared your commitment with someone that you are truly committed to getting exactly what you want; you've worked out a way (a plan) to get the money; and now, finally, you have to 'take action' to get it ...and this is where most teenagers (in fact most people, period) fail themselves - they simply don't take the action they need to take to get what it is they really had set their mind on.
Never forget Action is the Commodity of Kings'- Follow these steps and Take Action and you really will have all the money you need as a teenager.
